FIVE council workers take delivery of their new cars – five identical white Hyundai i30s.

Finance boss David Nelson splashed out on the award-winning motors because of Hyundai’s reputation for reliability and the company’s famous five-year warranty.

The i30s – offering high fuel economy and low Co2 emissions - will be the pride of West Sussex County Council’s fleet.

Council chiefs are so impressed with the cars they have already ordered TEN more from Richmond Hyundai in Farlington.

David, who is in charge of purchasing the authority’s transport, said: “Hyundais are so reliable and economical it makes absolute sense for us to use them and we will be gradually bringing more Hyundai’s into the fleet.”

David said the five-year warranty had transformed the economics of buying fleet vehicles. He said: “The five-year warranty allows us to replace the cars after three years – with two years remaining on the warranty. That greatly increases the residual value of the vehicle.”

The i30s will be used as pool cars by the council’s transport department. The authority already has eight i20s – voted Best Value Car by What Car? Magazine – and five i800 vans, which are used for transporting school children.

Richmond MD Michael Nobes – the famous King of Cars – said: “It’s good to know that people in charge of the public purse are prudent enough to buy Hyundais!
